Reverend Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr., is a true visionary and leader. As the son of the late Reverend Cardes H. Brown, Sr., and the late Mrs. Jocile Powell Brown, Dr. Brown was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and attended Booker T. Washington High School. At nineteen years of age, during his sophomore year at North Carolina A&T State University, he accepted the calling of God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
For over sixty years, Pastor Brown has devoted himself to pastoral ministry. Over the course of his ministerial career, he has been privileged to serve as pastor of various churches across North Carolina. For forty-nine years, he has served as the Senior Pastor of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Dr. Brown received his Graduate of Theology degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from the Greensboro Bible College, a Master of Divinity degree from Shaw Divinity School in Raleigh, North Carolina, a Doctor of Ministry / Worship Studies from Eastern Carolina Christian College in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Apex School of Theology in Durham, North Carolina, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the South Eastern University in Greenville, South Carolina. He is also a member of the distinguished Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers and is a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Dr. Brown is a man of many hats, with a heart for social justice and a deep commitment to his community. Having served on numerous boards and with several organizations, such as the state and local NAACP, Pulpit Forum of Greensboro, and Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity. In 2019, as a testament to his unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and equality, Dr. Brown was the recipient of the Benjamin L. Hooks Keeper of the Flame Award. He is currently serving as the President of the Justice Coalition USA, which is an organization that seeks to bring political, educational, social, and economic justice to those members of humanity who suffer injustices in various organizations and governments.
Alongside him in ministry and life is the lovely Diane Piece Brown. They are blessed with four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Dr. Brown is a warm and compassionate individual with a heart full of love and a spirit full of grace. He is undoubtedly inspiring to all who know him and his diligent work for Christ, the church, and community.
